Bill Gates in INDIA

Microsoft founder and philanthropist Bill Gates was in DELHI to addresses the Indian IT ecosystem audience.

There was a live streaming of the speech on 5th Nov at 2:00 pm and i was lucky enought to view it.

He spoke at length about the need to improve the health care towards eradicating polio, malaria etcc..

After his 30 min speech there was a question and answer session..One of the reporters from NDTV Profit asked him what he thought of OBAMA becoming the first african american president and the impact of economic slowdown...I thought it was a stupid question considering he had come to india to address problems related to health and not answer questions related to the economic slowdown but he was kind enought to answer...He also spoke about the need to develop software for the real life problems ..He also spoke about DreamSpark which is an initiative taken by Microsoft to distribute software free of cost to students...Infact one guy from IIT delhi asked him why does microsoft not believe in Open Source...It was a nice experience listening to the 2nd richest man in the world....After the meet there was a demonstration of SilverLight 2.0 for the online users..

GoTalkMobile

Short message service (SMS) is an integral part of our lives today. In fact, there are many people who prefer SMSing to making phone calls, notwithstanding the steep decline in call rates in recent times. That said, sending SMSes can be an expensive proposition, especially if you are sending them to a person in another city or worse, country. Or if you are on roaming!
Which is why mobile Instant Messaging (IM) is so handy. Thanks to some rather innovative applications, you can actually exchange text messages with your friends online without using SMS on your cellphone. All you need is a GPRS connection that enables you to access the internet on your mobile and the right software, and you can actually cut down on your SMS bill.

Here is one such software..

GoTalkMobile is GTalk instant messenger (IM) client for your J2ME-enabled cell phone. It's used for sending and receiving Google Talk and Jabber instant messages just like SMS, via GPRS at no additional cost! It's written in J2ME, and we have MIDP1.0 and MIDP2.0 compatible versions.
