Formula 1 without Ferrari ????

Ferrari has been the dominant formula 1 team for many years now by claiming the constructor championship for a record 15 times and looks all set to get it the 16th time this year...

With such a large presence in the world of motor racing could you just imagine the scenario without ferrari..Hard to imagine right but that is what the Ferrari is thinking if plans to introduce a standard engine for all teams from 2010 goes ahead.FIA said earlier this month it intends to bring in the rule to save costs.
Thought the Ferrari is also in full support for cost-sutting but is not ready to accept the standardisation of engines which they think would destroy the competitive nature among teams..

NOT IMPRESSED

The FIA issued a statement before this month's Chinese Grand Prix announcing a tender for "a third-party supplier of engines and transmission systems" to be used by all teams in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

The body has argued that the costs of Formula One are unsustainable in the current economic climate and must be slashed to ensure none of the 10 teams leave the sport.

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo, also head of the Formula One Teams Association (FOTA), he recently met FIA chief Max Mosley to discuss cost cutting measures, saying he was satisfied with progress made during the talks.

However, the company's board are not impressed with the standard engine idea.

Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone has backed the FIA's standard engine proposal and rejected suggestions that it might push some manufacturers towards the exit.

"We're trying to get a level playing field," he told reporters earlier this month.

"I don't see why they leave, we're saving them an awful lot of money I hope. All the technical things will still be there, they can show all of their talent."

Financial Crisis hits the Ambani's hard

Ambani's have always been the richest Indians in INDIA[:D] but now they have one more No 1 to their name but this time there is nothing to be happy about it because they have suffered more losses than Steel Tycoon Mittal has suffered

10 richest Indians have collectively lost over 400 billion dollars (Rs 20,00,000 crore) [:O] [:O] [:O], since January this year

Mittal's group lost US$ 68 billion in market cap, Mukesh's group lost US$ 99 billion and Anil's US$ 87 billion.

Withthe share market fully down share prices falling like a ninepin after the Sensex reached pinnacle of 21,206.77 points in January, bears are ruling the roost, making it a dark Diwali for the richie-rich.

According to a list of the world's richest billionaires published by American business magazine Forbes in March, Lakshmi Mittal was ranked as the richest Indian, followed by Mukesh Ambani, Anil Ambani, K P Singh, Shashi and Ravi Ruias, Azim Premji, Sunil Mittal, Kumar Mangalam Birla, Ramesh Chandra and Gautam Adani in the top 10.

The groups led by these 10 have seen an erosion of 50-93 per cent in their market values since January 10, the day when the Sensex scaled its life-time peak and after which the downslide began on Indian bourses.

So if people thought only the common man is getting affected by this crisis think again..The biggies have also not been spared..

CAT Question of the Day

The question below contains a paragraph followed by alternative summaries. Choose the option that best captures the essence of the text.

The Age of Reason: Being an Investigation of True and Fabulous Theology, a deistic treatise written by eighteenth-century British radical and American revolutionary Thomas Paine, critiques institutionalized religion and challenges the inerrancy of the Bible. Published in three parts in 1794, 1795, and 1807, it was a bestseller in America, where it caused a short-lived deistic revival. British audiences, however, fearing increased political radicalism as a result of the French revolution, received it with more hostility. The Age of Reason presents common deistic arguments; for example, it highlights the corruption of the Christian Church and criticizes its efforts to acquire political power. Paine advocates reason in the place of revelation, leading him to reject miracles and to view the Bible as an ordinary piece of literature rather than as a divinely inspired text. The Age of Reason is not atheistic, but Deistic: it promotes natural religion and argues for a creator-God.
OPTIONS
1)Thomas Paine’s The Age of Reason criticizes institutionalized religion and challenges the usefulness of the Bible. The book was very popular in America but less so in Britain. The book promotes a rational belief in the existence of God.
2)The Age of Reason, a book written by Thomas Paine in the 18th century, criticizes institutionalized religion and the beliefs written in the Bible. It was a bestseller in America but was less well received in Britain where people were more God fearing. The book is essentially deistic in nature, i.e. it promotes a rational belief in God.
3)The Age of Reason, a book written by Thomas Paine, who was an 18th century radical and revolutionary, challenges institutionalized religion and the writings in the Bible. It was a bestseller in America, but less so in Britain due to its increased political radicalism. The book highlights the corruption of the church and its efforts to acquire political power.
4)Thomas Paine’s, The Age of Reason is a book which criticizes institutionalized religion, challenges the inerrancy of the Bible, and promotes deism. It was a bestseller in America but was less well received in Britain.
5)Thomas Paine’s, The Age of Reason is a book which criticizes the authority of institutionalized religion and people’s belief in the Bible. It was a bestseller in America but was less well received in Britain which feared that the book may incite a wave of political radicalism. The book also highlights the corruption of the church and its efforts to acquire power.

Gilchrist slams Sachin, calls him a 'bad sport'

NO RESPECT FOR RIVAL: Adam Gilchrist makes it clear that he isn't a fan of Sachin Tendulkar.

While efforts are being made by both Indian and Australian players to keep emotions under control in the current Test series, former stumper Adam Gilchrist [Images] questioning Sachin Tendulkar's [Images] honesty during the spiteful Sydney Test could open fresh wounds.

In his autobiography, an extract of which will appear in the magazine 'Good Weekend', Gilchrist has hinted that Tendulkar was a sore loser and questioned his honesty in the "Monkeygate" affair that threatened to go out of hand during India's tour Down Under.

Terming Tendulkar's testimony during Harbhajan Singh's [Images] appeal as a "joke", Gilchrist noted, "The Indians got him (Harbhajan) off the hook when they, of all people, should have been treating the matter of racial vilification with the utmost seriousness."

Gilchrist was particularly disappointed with Tendulkar's behaviour who, according to him, had initially told the hearing that he could not hear what was said, he was "certain he was telling the truth" because he was "a fair way away".

But during the appeal which followed, Tendulkar said that Harbhajan used a Hindi term that sounded like "monkey" to Australian ears.

The stumper was convinced that the Harbhajan was guilty and considered India's threat to abandon the tour was "a disgraceful act, holding the game to ransom unless they got their way", The Age reported.

He also wrote that there was vast difference in the manner the teams approached the game.

"In the Australian mentality, we play it hard and are then quick to shake hands and leave it all on the field. Some of our opponents don't do it that way. Sachin Tendulkar, for instance, can be hard to find for a changing room handshake after we have beaten India. Harbhajan can also be hard to find.

"I guess it's a case of different strokes for different folks."

Golman Sachs to cut 10% workforce; slash 3,260 jobs

WALL STREET BLUES: International giants hit by turmoil in world finance.

Goldman Sachs Group Inc. is cutting about 10 per cent of its work force amid the ongoing downturn in the credit and lending markets, a person briefed on the plan said on Thursday.

Goldman Sachs will cut about 3,260 jobs. Goldman's work force, which was at record high levels at the end of the third quarter, will be pared back close to 2006 and 2007 levels. No additional cuts are planned, the person said.

The job cuts are a direct result of the current economic environment and significantly lower levels of business activity, the person told the Associated Press.

Last month, amid the increasing turmoil that saw Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. file for bankruptcy protection and Merrill Lynch & Co. sell itself to Bank of America Corp., Goldman Sachs along with Morgan Stanley received approval to become bank holding companies.

September was considered one of the worst months during the credit crisis as banks essentially stopped lending money to each other for fear they would not be repaid. The problems intensified when Lehman filed for bankruptcy and the government loaned insurer American International Group Inc. $85 billion to help it remain in business.

Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley made the change to bank holding companies as investors worried the stand-alone investment bank model may no longer be viable. With the new status, Goldman Sachs will likely face increased regulatory scrutiny, which could force it to scale back some of more leveraged and aggressive business units.

The new status also allows Goldman Sachs to grow a large deposit base to help fund its operations, while providing permanent access to borrow money from the Federal Reserve. Before changing its status, Goldman Sachs only had temporary access to that lending option.

Goldman Sachs has widely been considered among the best performing banks amid the ongoing credit and mortgage crisis that began in the middle of 2007.

During its fiscal third quarter, which ended Aug. 31, the company's profit fell 71 per cent, but that performance was still better than many of its competitors, which have reported quarterly losses throughout much of the year.

Last month, Goldman Sachs struck a deal with Warren Buffett to sell preferred and common stock to Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway. As part of the deal, Buffett planned to invest at least $5 billion in fresh capital to help Goldman Sachs. The investment could double to $10 billion.

At the same time, Goldman Sachs issued common stock to raise an additional $5 billion through a public offering.

Shares of Goldman Sachs fell $1.71 to $113 in pre-market trading.

Job Hopping ? Watch out !!

Does job hopping help in career growth?

In today's corporate world, job hopping seems to be the mantra for success. In a quest to climb the corporate ladder, Gen X has no qualms about quitting jobs for fatter pay cheques and lucrative positions. Sticking to one organisation for years together is passé and even four jobs in less than two years no longer raises eyebrows.
So what is it that drives today's ambitious and energetic professionals to frequently job hop? Is it just the moolah, job satisfaction, stifling boredom or the thrill that comes with such frequent jumps?

Been there, done that
The "on-the-go" Gen X of today is capable of adjusting to different work environments and doesn't believe to sticking to a single job for years. Undoubtedly, job hopping seems to have become the easiest shortcut to success, with job security having taken a backseat. While some youngsters claim to hop for better opportunities and higher positions, there are others who admit to changing jobs frequently for fatter pay packages. Also, the concept of loyalty towards the organisation is now turning archaic. The 'career conscious' youth of today does not fret about switching loyalties for a lucrative job offer that offers a winning combination of both fame and fortune.

Akshat Mishra, who's changed three jobs in the last two years says, "I did my MBA from a reputed B-school in Mumbai. I got a job offer after completing my course and I joined that company. I quit it after six months and joined another company, because it offered an attractive salary. But I eventually wasn't enjoying my work and decided to find another job in another organisation which was much more reputed than the previous one. It also offered many perks, in addition to a fat salary."

Expert tip: Vinay Pandey, a corporate trainer opines, "There's nothing wrong with job hopping as it helps you learn diverse skills and know more about your industry. You may not be able to gain diverse experience if you stick to one job for way too long. But it's important to consider factors like growth prospects, learning and advancement opportunities, apart from the company's performance record in order to take a wise decision. There's no rule for changing jobs as it's an intimately personal choice. However, there must be a minimum time you should spend with a company, ideally 2-3 years."

iPhone 3G Vs HTC T-Mobile G1

If you just brought an iPhone 3G or planning to buy one then here comes another gadget that gets my attention - the HTC TMobile G1 which is the first device that runs on the Google Android platform. It’s only just been made a available through T-Mobile in the U.S.

Features of Google Android OS:

  • Application framework enabling reuse and replacement of components
  • Dalvik virtual machine optimized for mobile devices
  • Integrated browser based on the open source WebKit engine
  • Optimized graphics powered by a custom 2D graphics library; 3D graphics based on the OpenGL ES 1.0 specification (hardware acceleration optional)
  • SQLite for structured data storage
  • Media support for common audio, video, and still image formats (MPEG4, H.264, MP3, AAC, AMR, JPG, PNG, GIF)
  • GSM Telephony (hardware dependent)
  • Bluetooth, EDGE, 3G, and WiFi (hardware dependent)
  • Camera, GPS, compass, and accelerometer (hardware dependent)
  • Rich development environment including a device emulator, tools for debugging, memory and performance profiling, and a plugin for the Eclipse IDE

‘So what?’ you say. ‘Does it stack up to the iPhone 3G?’

HTC T-Mobile G1 Versus Apple iPhone 3G
Let’s see. Here’s a comparison table that I created this afternoon based on the specs of these two formidable phones. To make it easy to compare against eachother, I used a green highlight to indicate which phone was superior in an area and yellow where it was a tie. Greens are tallied at the bottom.

Based on their specs alone, the iPhone 3G came out the winner! It especially dominated in the areas of CPU, screen size, weight and of course iPod functionality. This was no easy win though. Points were given to the HTC T-Mobile G1for slimness, auto-focusing 3.2 Megapixel camera, memory expandability and battery life.

Despite the iPhone 3G coming out on top, I think many will be in the queue for the HTC G1 when it comes to India.

IMF predicts zero growth for US economy in 2009 [:o]

BRAINSTORMING: World leaders meet on November 15 to discuss the global economic crisis.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has a gloomy economic outlook for the United States and rest of the Western Hemisphere.

The IMF said that US economic growth will be close to zero or even slightly negative for the rest of 2008. Overall, the IMF says, growth in the advanced economies as a whole will also be close to zero at least until the middle of 2009.

According to the IMF a recovery is unlikely till the second half of 2009. Global economic growth, too, is likely to decline to 3.7 per cent this year, much below nearly five per cent recorded in 2007, as US, world's largest economy, is expected to slip into a recession.

The global economic growth is expected to fall further and touch 2.4 per cent in 2009.

World leaders will meet in Washington on November 15 to discuss the global economic crisis.

Beckham to join AC Milan

MAKING A MOVE: English midfielder David Beckham is still under contract with LA Galaxy.

AC Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani has confirmed that LA Galaxy and England star David Beckham will join the club in January until the end of the season in a deal that could then become permanent.

Beckham will join the Italian side in January while the MLS season takes a break, and he will stay at Milanello until the end of the European season, possibly then making this a permanent move.

"Beckham wants to train and play with Milan," Galliani told Il Corriere Della Sera.

"We want him. He will arrive in January and we will sign him for the rest of the season. It's not just a shop window deal, it's a great deal. He will be available for Ancellotti for Serie A and the UEFA Cup.

"Football today is not just about tactics and technical abilities. It's about full stadiums and sponsors. No-one can beat the 65,000 fans we had on Sunday.

"The stadiums will only fill up with superstars like Beckham who has asked Milan for hospitality, not another club.

"With him, Kaka and Ronaldinho, it will be a dream team."

The English midfielder is still under contract with LA Galaxy but it seems as if Galliani has concrete ideas already in place as he tries to land Beckham on a permanent deal.

I
t was truly a historic moment for the entire country. The PSLV-C11, which carries India's first unmanned moon spacecraft Chandrayaan-1, was successfully put into initial orbit from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre on Wednesday morning at around 6.40 am

At the end of the 49-hour countdown, the 44.4 meter tall four-stage PSLV-C11 blasted off from the second launch pad with the ignition of the core first stage at 6.22 am.

Large crowds had gathered at Shriharikota since early Wednesday morning to witness this historic event. The crowds cheered at the PSLV, which weighs 316 tonnes soared majestically into the skies. However, the thick black clouds played spoil sport for those waiting to watch the PSLV launch into the skies.
